The West Valley Viking’s Team, competing in the West Coast Conference, has consistently been a top contender in recent seasons. They are known for their incredible sense of comradery, hard work, and strong playing style. After finishing last season with a solid record of 30-10, the team has shown great growth this year, integrating new talent, building on past success, and hungry for more this upcoming spring.

Currently in the fall non-traditional season, much of the team’s success can be attributed to the Vikings’ exceptional teamwork. “On a chemistry level, this team is closer than any other team I’ve played on before,” says veteran Sophomore Gabbi Diotalevi. “It’s been like a family since day one.” Their close bonds, as well as individual talent and drive, help in their competitive environment.

Paving the way is Head Coach Vicky Piatt, who earned her 300th win this past season in April 2024 after 15 years coaching with West Valley. With her infectious positivity and passion for the sport, her coaching philosophy is a key part of the team’s achievements. “We say in our sport, you ride the wave,” says Piatt, emphasizing the importance of giving direction to the team and navigating the peaks and valleys of a fall season while keeping focus on a spectacular spring.

In the world of female athletics, West Valley’s incredible facilities are almost unheard of. The girls take great pride in not only their team, but their space, often brushing the field and taking care of the turf. “They really have invested in female athletes. They show that they care,” expresses Coach Piatt while giving an extensive tour of the state-of-the-art setup.

With the spring season approaching, the West Valley Vikings Softball team stands ready - ready to face the challenges, opponents, and tests of their strength. Through their hard work, unwavering spirit, and support from each other, their coaches, and their fans, they’re determined to take it all the way, inviting everyone to join them on their journey. The West Valley community is key to the team’s success, whether it’s attending games or cheering from the stands.

“These girls have a real chance at states,” says Coach Piatt, “This is one of the hardest working teams I’ve ever coached before. This is the team that has the chance to go the distance.” With the stands filled, field set, and under bright stadium lights, this team and their hard work are ready to leave their mark on the bright season ahead.
